Foods to Clear Acne

Few studies have been done about the link between food and acne. Because of that, many dermatologists continue to believe that there is no link to prove that greasy foods or dairy cause acne.

Drinking lots of water is one of the best treatments for almost all skin ailments. Without the proper amount of water in your skin, your cells cannot rebuild your body properly and have a tougher time eliminating waste. A buildup of toxins in the skin will likely result in acne.

Stress and Vitamin B-2
Stress is a leading cause of nasty acne breakouts. Vitamin B-2 has been shown to reduce stress and its impacts on the body. You can get additional B-2 from foods like whole grains, fish, milk, eggs, meat and leafy green vegetables, such as spinach.

Foods with Vitamin B-3
B-3 has been shown to improve circulation, enabling your blood to carry more nutrients, hydration and oxygen to the skin. You can get additional vitamin B-3 from foods like peanuts, eggs, avocados and lean meats. B-3 also helps to reduce cholesterol levels.

Foods High in Antioxidants
Foods with high levels of antioxidants (fresh fruit and vegetables) help fight against free radicals that attack the body. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant and can be found in peanuts, almonds, sunflower seeds, broccoli and vegetable oils. Zinc is another powerful antioxidant and is recommended by the Mayo Clinic to help fight acne. Foods that are high in zinc include eggs, whole grains and mushrooms.

Food Allergies
Most of the scientific research completed in relation to food and acne has been to link between food allergies with acne. Pay attention to what you eat, and the subsequent reactions after eating those types of foods. You could also have allergy tests performed by your doctor to find out what specific foods you are allergic to. It’s an after-the-fact approach, but avoiding foods you are allergic to will help to clear acne.
